Fresco for Laďka, Strážnice

While settling into her newly finished house, Laďka came up with the idea that she would like to look at a piece of art from her window that would bring her joy. This inspired the idea of treating the wall of her brother-in-law's adjacent workshop—and once he agreed, we came to sketch. Laďka devotes herself generously to local culture—she preserves the tradition of folk costumes and songs, leads a local ensemble, and is extremely busy. As inspiration, we were given access to several local folk motifs and patterns, and we were struck by the stylized figure of a peacock. In the local tradition, men of Strážnice used to put a peacock feather onto their hats, when going to military service, as a form of protection and a reminder of home. The peacock and the mountain resembling the local hills now guard Laďka's home as well.
