Homeless Cooks' Dining Room

The second project of the Jako doma initiative is the Dining Room of Homeless Cooks. A crucial issue for women experiencing homelessness is employment. When searching for work, they face double discrimination—both as women and because of their social status as poor. Observing how homeless people often stand in line for food at various services, staff and clients together came up with the idea to turn the situation around. Let women experiencing homelessness cook for the public, gain employment, and showcase their skills. The dining room opened in March 2017. It offers vegan lunches, sweet and savory treats, catering, food stalls at various events, and processes surplus fruit and vegetables that would otherwise go to waste. It also organizes thematically focused gastro and community events.

The dining room is a vibrant, delicious, and safe place. Our fresco only underlined the feelings of this stronghold on the map of quality Prague restaurants with a social dimension. The mural features the suggestion of a solid, welcoming house, consecrated bread, two bowls, and a package with an untied ribbon.
